    • Media details are fully protected
    • Privacy statement for peace of mind

As the new General Data Protection Regulation comes into force requiring companies holding customers’ personal data to ensure privacy protection the Kia Motors (UK) Limited Press and PR Department wants to assure all its media contacts know that the company is fully compliant.

The Press and PR Team only hold personal data of media customers for reasons of service provision and communication and only passes any portion of this data to external agencies for similar reasons such as press release distribution, car delivery, travel arrangements.

Media contacts should be aware that Kia Motors only holds this data in order to provide services required and does not use it in any commercial manner or provide the data to any other organisation for commercial reasons.

All media contacts have the right to access the data that is held, the right to rectify any errors, the right to be erased from any database, the right for personal data to be restricted, the right to portability of that data and the right to object to the holding of that data.

Stephen Kitson, Director of Corporate Communications said: “I want to assure all of our media friends that their data is safe with us and that we only hold data in order to provide the services journalists want – information, test cars and access to our products. We do not share sensitive personal data such as passport details, dates of birth, driving licence numbers or home addresses with any organisation other than those who provide services on our behalf.

“For example, we pass home addresses and phone numbers to the company that delivers test cars on our behalf in order to allow those deliveries to take place and our travel agency will occasionally require passport numbers for the purpose of booking airline tickets or hotel rooms.

“We do occasionally pass some data to our head office if a journalist is travelling with us to Korea or to a European-organised event but that data goes no further and is used only for organisation and co-ordination purposes.

“We do hold journalists’ data for as long as is required by a journalists’ need for our services but sensitive data such as passport numbers is erased after the purpose for which it was required is completed.

Any of our media friends are welcome to check what data we hold about them at any time and should an individual’s circumstances change we are happy to delete that information upon request,” he added.
